DMB @ Nissan Tape

I did end up taping last night, and I decided that if I didn't convert the DMB tape today, it wouldn't get done for months (as evidenced by all the shows I have not edited and uploaded since March).

I'm currently seeding on dreaming tree - http://www.dreamingtree.org/details.php?id=4982 - you need an account there to download.

I think I liked last year's set at Nissan Better. This year was pretty good. They played the Space Between for the first time in a long time. I kind of wish I went to Hershey, because I liked that setlist better. The show was also almost 40 minutes longer. I think my tape came out to about 152 minutes, whereas Hershey was 187.

DMB @ Nissan

DMB @ Nissan on Saturday. I've gone from seeing them 3-5 times a year to seeing them maybe once a year. But ticket prices have just gotten outrageous, and I don't feel like traveling for them. I'm going to try to tape the show. I have almost the exact same seats that Eric and I had last year. They are at the back of a section, which means there will be less people interfering w/ my equipment. Ron probably has better seats than me again this year and I'm pretty sure he will be taping as well.

Rain, Rain Go Away

I got a little luckier today at the Alexandria Red Cross Waterfront Festival than I did two weeks ago at the Herndon Festival. Two weeks ago, the skies decided to take a big long piss 15 minutes before Lloyd Dobler Effect was supposed to go on. Their set was even canceled. VACO played at the Waterfront Festival again this year. I saw them there last year, but the tape didn't come out because my JB3 overheated and shut off in the middle of Walk to Work. Today it was drizzling on and off all evening so I didn't even bother trying to tape it. The set was good though, and it didn't rain that badly.

In other news, I haven't touched any of my tapes since march. I will make time to edit them at some point.... I really will.

Jay Clifford and Tim Reynolds shows

Despite my being very allergy filled this entire week, I was able to make it to both the Tim Reynolds TR3 and the Jay Clifford shows. TR3 was great. It was my second time seeing Tim. The first time was in Atlanta a number of years ago (before I even started taping!) and he was solo. It was also the first time I've ever been to the State Theatre, which is actually a really nice venue, except that it's very hollow, which can be heard in my tape. They played for almost three hours!! Thankfully the setlists from Tim's shows are posted on his message board, so I won't have to figure out the names of the songs when I go to track the show.

Jay Clifford was at the Iota, on Mother's Day, when it was raining like crazy, and when Radiohead was playing at Nissan Pavillion. Needless to say, there were only about 30 people there, if that. I don't remember how I ran my mics last time at the Iota, but this time I ran them XY at the right stack. The room has this wall in the middle of it, so your best bet is to run at either the right or the left stacks. Haven't listened to this show yet, but I will soon.

Jay Clifford on Sunday

Jay Clifford is coming back to the Iota this coming Sunday, headlining this time. I doubt it will be as packed as his last show there, with Howie Day. I didn't get there in time to get Jay's full set last time. Hopefully this time will be different.

No other updates besides that. I've gotten lazy again on editing my tapes.

Totally Old School

I decided to dig up the first concert video recording I ever made, and make it available to the masses in a format that's not VHS. This video happens to be of Howie Day from August 16th, 2001 at this this restaurant in the middle of nowhere in Homosassa called Kibbie's Dockside. The restaurant had a large open area behind it, so they decided they wanted to try their hand at getting some big names to play there on an outside stage. It may have been radio sponsored. Thus they got Edwin McCain, with Howie opening for him. It was a completely weird location and atmosphere for a show, especially since it was in the middle of freaking nowhere. But you didn't see me complaining.

As this was my first concert video recording ever, I didn't realize how shitty my little tripod actually was. Shortly thereafter I invested in one that didn't jerk when you tried to move it.

The great thing about this show, though, was that by some crazy occurrence, somebody decided to get a soundboard feed of the show. So instead of having just my camera audio, I put the soundboard audio in it's place, and it sounds really nice.

So far everything from the short set besides After You is now on YouTube. I've had a problem with the audio de-syncing after a video fade transition in the middle of the song.

So for your viewing pleasure, here's Howie from 8/16/01 doing an impression of Van Morrison doing an impression of him:

It's Video Time!

So being that I'm back in in Florida, I've made it my mission to transfer some of my old VHS-C videos to the computer. I transfered four different shows this past weekend. And I just finished youtubifying one show.

Now if you're not aware of how completely awesome Matt Nathanson is, you should definitely watch the videos I just put online. It's the complete show from June 29th, 2002, at Fletcher's in Baltimore, MD. This venue proved to be "interesting" for many reasons. I think the show turned out really good though.

I dubbed over the audio with the tape that Duncan and I recorded, which can be found here:

It sounds way better than the camera audio.

My main YouTube link is http://www.youtube.com/user/StealthEMG but I will post two songs below for your viewing pleasure.
